Together, Funk Luetke Skunda and Brush Wellman developed an award winning comeback story.  The story begins with unfair and negative media attention, with relentless coverage from The (Toledo) Blade and ABC’s 20/20 accusing Brush Wellman of intentionally exposing workers to unsafe levels of beryllium.  Brush was left with a skeptical community, concerned neighbors, and little credibility with the local media.

FLS and the company teamed up to:

• Establish a Community Advisory Panel

• Proactively report environmental news to its neighbors

• Make peace with an environmental advocacy group

• Develop regular vehicles for getting news to the community at large

• Rebuild relationships with local officials and the media.

For their efforts, Brush and FLS were awarded a Diamond Award (tied for first place) from the East Central Region of the Public Relations Society of America.
